What leaders need to know

Eligibility is only the first question.

A credible Automation CA case must link equipment purpose, operational outcomes, qualifying activity, timing and evidence. TT Thrive helps surface those questions early.

Investment fit

Clarify the automation objective, proposed equipment and business activity.

Productivity logic

Connect the project to throughput, quality, labour, safety or decision visibility.

Evidence readiness

Identify the records, approvals and technical narrative that may be required.

Decision sequence

Know what to validate with tax, MIDA and SIRIM stakeholders before committing.

One investment · three leadership lenses

A stronger case aligns finance, operations and executive intent.

CFO & finance

Validate expenditure timing, incentive interaction and the evidence needed for a defensible tax position.

COO & operations

Define the productivity baseline, direct operational use and measurable improvement logic.

CEO, MD & board

Connect the incentive opportunity to the capital decision, implementation risk and strategic outcome.

Before the application

Start with one investment.
Build the evidence.

You do not need every answer to begin. The initial review identifies potential fit, preparation needed or concerns about scope—not an official eligibility decision.

01 · The investing company

Confirm the Malaysian entity, relevant licences and at least 36 months of manufacturing or services activity. A hospital group’s history does not automatically establish the investing subsidiary’s position.

02 · The operational change

Describe direct operational use and measurable improvement. For manufacturing: output, labour hours, cycle time and defects. For hospitals: staff time per sample, processing capacity and manual steps. Equipment names and clinical benefits alone do not establish eligibility.

03 · Industry 4.0 and sequencing

Review integration, IoT, analytics or another relevant Industry 4.0 element explicitly. Section 6.3 requires expenditure on at least one Industry 4.0 asset. MIDA’s linked manufacturing guideline also specifies an Industry 4.0 first submission for a series of applications. Confirm the applicable sequence before applying.

04 · Timing and supporting records

Separate purchase, full payment, commissioning and actual use dates. Keep the purchased-equipment list, invoices or purchase orders, delivery orders and proof of full payment ready for external-auditor certification where required. Historical expenditure needs a timing review; a purchase since 2023 is not automatic retrospective entitlement.

05 · Grants and existing incentives

Disclose all grants and incentives, including RA and previous ACA. The portion not funded by a government grant may be considered; restrictions and sequencing depend on the applicable Year of Assessment. Your tax adviser should validate the position.

What commonly falls outside the scope?

MIDA’s Appendix A lists standard office and accounting software, specified consumer and booking apps, retail/restaurant self-service kiosks, and same-specification replacements. A supplier’s description is not an eligibility decision.

Independent advisory guidance, not an application checklist or approval. Read the MIDA services guideline. Confirm current sector-specific requirements before submission.
